Harrow Appi Japan offers an international winter camp for children looking for a safe, engaging and technically rich winter experience in Northern Japan. Based in Appi Kogen, the largest ski resort in Japan's Tohoku region, our winter camp combines robot engineering, applied mathematics, physics and computer science with genuine ski instruction, in a fully supervised environment.
With a focused programme running from 13–19 December and instruction designed for complete beginners through to confident skiers, our winter camp is ideal for families seeking a high-quality, hands-on experience for children aged 9 to 13.

The learning journey
The host
This winter, Mr Scattergood, our Head of Computer Science, will be leading our Winter Camp, guiding children through exciting hands-on projects alongside his team.
Passionate about physical computing, AI, and creative technology, he loves finding new ways to bring hands-on innovation into the school's mountain setting.
A ski programme like no other
Let's be honest - robots shouldn't have all the fun! That's why half of camp is spent right out on the slopes, skiing or snowboarding with our experienced instructors.
Your child will train the same way students do at Harrow Appi Japan's Alpine Academy, an elite programme where students hit the snow three times a week for half the year. Sessions are grouped by ability, so first-timers build confidence step by step through the fundamentals, while more experienced riders get pushed further - sharpening their turns through the gates or getting creative in the freestyle park.
By the end of the week, your child won't just have learned to ski - they'll come home feeling like a real mountain athlete.
Living at Harrow after hours
For a full week, your child gets to experience life as a real Harrow Appi Japan student - living in our boarding houses, looked after by our boarding team, and part of a community that doesn't stop when the day ends.
Every evening brings something new: from games nights and movie screenings to mountain-themed challenges and team activities, all designed to spark new friendships and camp memories that last well beyond the week. It's the sleepovers-with-friends experience, just with a lot more snow.
